Five young people have each been fined $1334.50 after they were busted having a “noisy party” at a Maroochydore hotel, despite social distancing rules.
The incident happened at the Rhythm on Beach apart-hotel, which overlooks the Maroochy River.
“These young people claim to have no knowledge of the pandemic or the directions to maintain social distancing,” Superintendent Overland said.

He said after a month of reminding the public of the need for social distancing, this served as a warning that police would be handing out fines and punishments to those who break the rules.
Last weekend Queensland Police issued over $77,000 in fines after hundreds of people gathered at a big car rally in Rochedale.

Easter crackdown

Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll has promised a statewide crackdown on people flouting social distancing rules at Easter, including those driving to holiday homes.
Ms Carroll said that was not essential travel as she outlined how officers had already issued 139 infringement notices in less than a week for people driving or being out without a valid reason, ignoring quarantine rules or ignoring social distancing restrictions in places like parks.
“I expect that this will pick up in the next few weeks and probably even at the weekend,” she said on Tuesday.
“Disappointingly, even though we have been giving a lot of messaging on this, people are still blatantly disregarding the rules.”
This morning Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said a further nine Queenslanders had been diagnosed with coronavirus since yesterday, taking the state’s total to 943.
