What exactly is this virus?

COVID-19, also known as, Coronavirus disease 2019, is a respiratory illness that can spread from a person to another person. The virus outbreak was first discovered in Wuhan, China, believe to have started from an animal source. The virus is highly contagious, though it is not as deadly as MERS or SARS.

How does the virus spreads?

  • Respiratory droplets through coughing or sneezing
  • Close personal contact, such as touching and hand shaking
  • Touching your mouth, nose, eyes, before washing your hands
  • Contaminated surfaces or objects. It is believed that Coronavirus COVID-19 can survive on certain surfaces, up to 72 hours (3 days).
  • Crowded areas. Virus tend to spread easily in crowded areas.
  • Toilets

What are the symptoms of Coronavirus COVID-19?

  • Dry Cough and flu
  • Mild Fever
  • Difficulty breathing and shortness of breath
  • Diarrhoea

**It may takes up to 14 days to show for some people.

How to protect yourself?

How to prevent yourself from getting Coronavirus?

  • Avoid close personal contact, such as touching or hand shaking.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Use a tissue when coughing or sneezing.
  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • OR use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer gel that contains at least 60% alcohol.
  • Practice social distancing; avoiding unnecessary contact with other people.
  • Avoid unnecessary travel
  • Work from home, if possible
  • Clean your mobile phones.

How to wear a mask and dispose them properly for Coronavirus?

  • Wash your hands with soap and water or hand sanitizers (alcohol-based) before putting on the mask.
  • Cover both your mouth and nose tightly with mask, making sure there are not gaps at all.
  • Try not to touch the mask when you are wearing it.
  • Replace the mask with new ones once it is wet or damp. It is important not to reuse the masks.
  • When removing the mask, remove it from the back and try not to touch the front of the mask.
  • Discard it immediately in a closed bin
  • Wash your hands with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizers.

What if...

What if you suspect you contacted coronavirus?

  • Stay really calm
  • Self-isolate yourself at home if you have continuous cough or high temperature of 37.8C
  • Protect yourself by wearing the mask at all times to prevent potential spreading of the virus.
  • Visit your nearest healthcare provider if it does not get better after a few days.
  • Continue to isolate yourself at home if the results tested negative or the doctor advise that you self-monitor yourself.
  • Avoid going out or any personal contact with anyone, even your family members.
  • If condition worsen, visit THE SAME health care provider again.
