MANILA, Philippines — Bayambang, Pangasinan Mayor Cezar Quiambao and his wife have tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

In a statement, the mayor bared that he and his were tested for COVID-19 on March 16.

“During our 14-day quarantine, we confirmed that we were both positive so we received proper treatment from the doctors who believe that we have now recovered,” he said.

Quiambao, however, noted that they will once again undergo 14-day self-quarantine to ensure that they will not put anyone at risk.

“This is our way of helping to contain the spread of the virus and helping our health workers to flatten the curve,” he said.

To date, there are 2,084 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country as of Tuesday, 88 of whom have died while 49 recovered.

The Philippines is currently under a state of calamity due to the virus, which originated in Hubei province in China.

Luzon was placed under a month-long enhanced community quarantine to curb the spread of the viral illness.

Mass gatherings, including the celebration of Holy Mass have since been suspended, along with public transportation services and work in many offices and facilities.
